Thangkas (Sacred Paintings)

The wonderful hand painted thangkas we offer are amongst the best available in the marketplace. All are traditionally mounted within a fine silk brocade frame. Our paintings are hand selected for quality and are checked thoroughly to make sure each detail is correct. Each painting is a stunning sacred image that can often take many months to complete.

We purchase directly from the artist and not the low quality Thangka wholesalers that are common in Nepal and India. This means that greater financial support is given to the artist, which aids them to produce finer quality works. Due to paying a higher premium we get a choice of only the best works. The quality of the more expensive thangkas is reflected in the standard of painting, the size of the piece, materials used and the higher standard of silk brocade mounting. We strive very hard to bring you the finest available paintings at the most affordable prices. Our paintings are in the homes of practitioners and Buddhist centres all over the world. It is not difficult to see why!

We also commission thangkas of Buddhas, deities, yidams, protectors and gurus that may not be listed here. If you are interested in purchasing a Thangka that is not shown on our website then please feel free to contact us. We would be delighted to help you.

The photograph you see on our website is the Thangka you will receive. Photographs will never do these wonderful paintings full justice. The true colours and richness of these pieces is always lost when using digital cameras. If you require further pictures to help your decision then please let us know.

All of our thangkas are framed in the traditional way. Sizes quoted are approximate.

"Mind, a continual source of meanings, is like the sky:
The sky is Mind, genuine meaningfulness,
without duality, complete and identical with itself -
understand it thoroughly straight away"

For the benefit of sentient beings,
give rise to bodhicitta,
And with the energy and force that bodhicitta brings,
Use aspiration prayers so pure to start hauling on that rope,
And pull it straight to the pure path of seeing directly.
Vipashyana will realize purity that can’t be seen,
And then you’ll see mind’s hopes and fears for what they really are.
Without going anywhere, you’ll arrive at the Buddha’s ground.
Without looking at anything, you’ll see dharmakaya.
Without achieving anything, you’ll naturally reach your goal.

Click Here A beautiful Thangka of the 3rd Karmapa. It is known that Rangjung Dorje grew up in Tsurphu, receiving the full transmissions of both the Kagyu and Nyingma tradition. At the age of 18 (1301), he received the preliminary monastic ordination. After a retreat on the slopes of Mt. Everest, he took full ordination, and further broadened his studies at a great seat of the Khadampa lineage. Not content with this, Rangjung Dorje sought out and studied with the greatest scholars and experts of different traditions of knowledge, learning from all Buddhist traditions of the time. By the end of his studies, he had learnt and mastered nearly all of the Buddhist teachings brought to Tibet from India.

"Free from mental contrivance, it is Mahamudra,
Free from extremes, it is the great Middle Way,
Since it encompasses everything, it is Dzogchen —
May we gain the confidence of realizing all through knowing one.."

On Sale!! Previously £400.00
Click Here Amitayus Buddha or "Buddha of Boundless Life" is considered the Sambhogakaya aspect of the widely known Amitabha Buddha or "Buddha of Boundless Light." In fact, in many Buddhist traditions of the Far East, Amitabha and Amitayus are indistinguishable. However, in the Tibetan Vajrayana tradition, these two Buddhas are clearly distinguished; with Amitabha more closely related to the attainment of his Pure Land of Ultimate Bliss (Dewachen) and Amitayus as the main practice for prolonging or extending one's lifespan. Hence, among the many Tibetan lineages, the practice of Amitayus Buddha is held in high esteem. Longevity is seen as a contributing condition that will allow us more time and opportunity to practice the Dharma. Hence, longevity is sought through this practice not merely for the sake of longevity but rather for the ultimate purpose of completing one's training on the path of Dharma.
