Most of the songs on the CD were written during solitary retreats Walker Blaine did between 1997 and 2001. The lyrics include themes on compassion, impermanence, emptiness, death and dying, dependent origination, Buddha Nature, and Shambhala. The title track, “Highland Eyes”, was written for the anniversary of the passing of Chögyam Trungpa, Rinpoche. Trungpa Rinpoche is one of my teachers and one of the main lineage holders to plant the Tibetan Buddhist teachings firmly in the West. The song describes his life and the myriad of skillful methods he used to make the teachings available to everyone.
