Click Here This is classical Egyptian music rendered in modern arrangements by Essam Rashad, one of Egypt's most prominent modern composers. Hossam Ramzy brings his consumate percussive skills, especially on the Egyptian tabla, to provide the up-beat driving force of the music. His understanding and mastery of the style of drumming that draws out the soul of Arab Egyptian dance resulted in this, his first album, being followed by many others. Ro-He means 'my soul'.

Click Here Hossam Ramzy brings together dance music from all over the Arab world drawing on styles from Egypt, Morrocco, Lebanon, Kuwait and Saudia Arabia. The music is boyant and pulsating and there is a variety of moods and rhythms. The artists of the Hossam Ramzy ensemble bring attack to their playing and there are some delightful improvised solo sequences. Instruments include quarter-tone accordion, ney flute, aud, violin, trumpet, saxaphone, horns, and, of course, a variety of drums.

RAI means 'opinion', and relates to the feelings of youth, especially when these feelings are at odds with the world at large. The word comes out of Algeria but the concept holds throughout the Middle East. The music on this album captures the spirit of this but is quite distinctive from Algerian Rai music.

Click Here This is perhaps Hossam Ramzy's most powerful work to date. His intention for the music is that it should speak of love and be drawn from 'soulful creation'; "I'd like to indicate that the soul is the 'SOURCE OF FIRE' in any moment of true love". These are emotional compositions giving scope to the virtuoso tallents and spiritual awareness of the soloists within the Hossam Ramzy Egyptian Ensemble. The deeply Egyptian character of many of the pieces is reflected in the use of a range of traditional Egyptian instruments including the nay, aud, kawala and quanoon. Source of Fire follows Hossam's high standard in dance pieces, but also it embraces ethnic and world music with a hypnotic and exotic flavour. The accompanying booklet gives full details of the pieces and instruments used.
