The lost wax process is used in the making of all our fine quality copper and gilt statues. This is a time consuming process where a wax model of the statue is prepared entirely by hand. It is then covered in clay and heated until the wax melts. Hot melted metal is then poured into the cavity and the original wax model is now seen in the metal image. The metal image is then made smooth and engraved. This gives the statue the finer detail. When the image is ready, Gold or Silver are then used to gild the statue. The whole process is highly skilled work which makes the Lost Wax statues the best in the World.
Unless otherwise stated, statues are finished to a dark oxidised copper and partially gold plated. The faces are hand painted using paints enriched with gold. For more information, see our page on Rupas in the section on Product Information.
