BUDDHA SHAKYAMUNI

These statues represent the historical Buddha who is known as Buddha Shakyamuni. He is shown at the moment of enlightenment, when he called on the spirit of the earth as witness to his achievement. The Buddha is seated on a lotus holding an alms bowl in his left hand and with his right hand in the bhumi sparsha or 'earth touching' position. Unless otherwise stated, statues are finished to a dark bronze colour and partially gold plated. The faces are hand painted using paints enriched with gold.
