For centuries, Tibetans have hung strings of prayer flags outside their homes and places of spiritual practice. Each flag is printed with mantras, images, auspicious symbols, deity invocations and prayers. The passage of air across the flags both activates the prayers and carries their vibration into the world thereby promoting peace, compassion, fearlessness, wisdom and prosperity. As the images on the flags fade with the action of sun and rain, the prayers are absorbed into the universe.
For maximum benefit, prayer flags should be hung in the West; next best is North and then South. Flags should not be hung in the East.
Prayer flags are printed on material dyed in the traditional five colours representing the five elements (yellow: earth; green: air and wind; red: fire; white: water; blue: space) and should be arranged in this order along the string.
All our prayer flags are hand dyed and printed using wood blocks. Our flags have been checked thoroughly to make sure that the mantras are printed correctly.
